Those of you who already know us, and have accompanied us around Romagna and the Marche, are well aware of the beauty of this area and its many olive groves. Corregiolo, Frantoio, Leccino and Coratina are the olive varieties most commonly found in Romagna. At Sandro’s house, the olives are traditionally picked by hand, as in the old days, and are then taken to the mill to be pressed.
The Bikeness programme for this week includes a special extra day for harvesting the olives. Armed with rakes, nets, ladders and lots of good will, we will help Sandro with the olive harvest. At the end of the morning, we will learn how to make delicious “piada” bread with extra-virgin olive oil, which we will then enjoy with ham, salami, stracchino cheese and fresh rocket, followed by home-made jam tart and accompanied by a good Sangiovese wine.
Happy harvesting and enjoy your week!
