Monday: a special day

Special Monday “Albereto Castle and Vecciano”
Monday focuses on culture and good food!

A visit to our country house in Vecciano opens the week with a delicious promise that it is difficult to refuse.

To reach it we pass the municipal tower of Montescudo, a mediaeval 13th-century bulwark where we stop for a cup of coffee and visit to the famous ice house. After cycling for a few more kilometres we reach the small castle of Albereto, which affords special panoramic views of the ancient Republic of San Marino and the sea. A little further on we cross the nature park of the Marano torrent as far as Vecciano, where lunch awaits us at our family house. Grilled meat, typical cheeses, homemade pasta served with tomatoes from our market garden, lots of good wine and a visit to the old vinegar cellar with a tasting of balsamic vinegar reward cyclists for all their hard work.

Nature, forests, breathtaking landscapes and a wild habitat are the characteristics of the new itinerary that crosses the region of the Marche.

After Montefiore and Tavoleto, it takes us to Urbino where a long stretch begins that climbs and descends the Monti delle Cesane, a road surrounded by lush greenery with majestic maritime pine trees, cypresses and firs.

In 2009, the Giro d’Italia came through here. After a short stop at the top to enjoy the magnificent views of the Furla gorge we go down a steep, but safe descent to Fossombrone.

We will then tackle a climb that has never been attempted before and will lead us from Serrungarina to Mombaroccio after having climbed the Beato Sante Pass, a wonderful traffic-free road in wild and sparsely inhabited surroundings. There’s another short stop and a demanding climb to Pozzo Alto before returning home.
