A wonderful 50/60 km tour through the Conca Valley will take us to Mondaino, a small village with elegant palaces, low brick houses and walls surrounded by tree-lined roads.
In the village square, which has retained a working-class yet noble atmosphere, we’ll have a picnic and feast on spaghetti, piadina and traditional filled piadina called cassoni.
Here’s why we love Mondaino.
Climbing along the first stretch of the Conca Valley, just a few kilometres from the sea, the profile of the ancient borough stands out straight away. You can clearly make out the bell towers, turrets and town walls, built to defend the ancient territory of the Malatesta Seignory.
Once at the top, views span the entire valley, sweeping as far as the Adriatic Sea. The town centre has an elongated shape and stone-paved streets wind their way around the low houses. This is a charming place that retains much of the atmosphere of the past, which has survived the frenetic pace of modern life.
